Keeping Mexican truckers out completely seems to me to be an odd and very short-sighted policy.

I've been having more trouble than usual lately getting real information about issues. The press is all about whether Bush or Gephart or McCain or whoever won or lost the duel du jour and nothing about the underlying issues. When they take a few moments off from Chandra, that is. The politicians all seem to have already started the next campaign--all posturing and haranguing and no substance or compromise. Even more disgusting than usual.

Having said that, best I can tell, this Mexican truck thing is all about protecting the truckers from competition. There may be something to the truck safety thing, but you can't tell it from what's being written, and I've been looking. The asbestos and HMO issues seem to be all politics, too, best I can tell.
