Hank, I have lived overseas a long time and never seen a country with so many obese people under 40 as the US. You just don't see many 200 lb+ men and women that age, while it seems to be common in the US. Many young Americans looks like overinflated beach balls on two legs (often legs like tree trunks).

It's the first thing that strikes me whenever I come back on visits. I don't see that anywhere else - Europe, Africa or Asia.

Some of that may be genetic, I don't know, but I suspect it has a lot more to do with diet and lifestyle. The fact that our medical system keeps these fat people alive longer is a separate issue.
