I've never seen a study on this, but if you take away the yellow dog Democrats, government employees, unions, and blacks, there aren't many Democrat voters left. Their voter base is gradually shrinking. Network news doesn't seem to be winning many people over.

I'll grant you one thing. In the recent elections TV was instrumental in making the race close. But it wasn't just the networks, the cable channels are to blame too. Aside from calling Gore states early and Bush states late and lying about the polls in Florida being closed, their reliance on the VNS turned out to be completely misguided. I was astonished to learn what an unsophisticated operation they are. Bill Sammon explains it well in his book about the election. VNS had pollsters spread way too thin in Florida, and when they did ask questions, they were very inefficient. Their read on Florida did not jibe with how people were really voting. I'd like to see Fox use their own pollsters next time and not rely on the VNS.
