Standards in public school have almost taken on the same "bad" connotation as "values," "morals," "right vs wrong," etc. I suspect a deterioration in performance on academics that corollates to a deterioration in standards of deportment. These things then carry over into adulthood and I am not surprised by your observations. Throwing rocks at the adults who came through the system is not that productive. Looking at the system that shapes this up from early child hood might be helpful. I simply asked what standards of deportment you and others could support for the public schools (given two generations for the benefits to mature).
