Okay. The point on the table was: "If the Administration has a reason for not attending that's more substantial, then they should say so." And you asked why.

How about because they're our elected officials and they should tell us why they make decisions on our behalf? You know, sunlight, honesty, openness, all that mom and apple pie stuff.

Or maybe to avoid any unnecessary backlash that might result from misunderstandings?

Or maybe to save time for more important items? I've had CSPAN on in the background this afternoon, saw both the majority and minority leaders of the Senate talking about how full their agenda was and fretting over having enough time to do everything on time. I also watched the House spend some time talking about the conference, time that might have been spent on something more pressing.
