re: Don't you think we ought to confirm that human activity does contribute to 'global warming' first?

I think people and politicians should be forced to confront the cost of meeting Kyoto at a LOCAL LEVEL.

1. IMHO most politicians couldn't care less about Scientific proof.

The number two cause of accidental death in children 14 and under (in the U.S. in 1998 via CDC) is drowning (way more than firearm related deaths in children under 15). You don't see anyone calling for mandatory swimming lessons for children, or mandating that every pool owner prove they know and under standpool safety.

2. Europeans realize that even united, they cannot compete with the United States or Asia economically (remember when the Euro was going to replace the Dollar?). They probably view one of the reasons is cheap fuel costs in the U.S.. The U.S. has the advantage of hundreds of years worth of coal reserves (not to mention shale oil, tar sands, and oil in areas that drilling is prohibited). Kyoto IMHO is a means of lowering Americas economic advantage via the back door.
