Speaking of Gorilla characteristics, shouldn't one of them be how well it hangs onto to it's value during adverse conditions.

No, I don't think that's advisable. Once you come to that conclusion, the corollary is that you should it expect its value to grow X% during conditions that aren't adverse. As you know, there are occasionally huge disconnects between how investors value a company and how its fundamentals are progressing. Valuation metrics are tools an investor can use to his/her advantage, but they're completely separate from the metrics that determine whether or not a company is a Gorilla.
