I've been to the Air Force Museum in Dayton several times. When my son was younger and had a cousin or friend visit from out-of-town, we'd always take the kids up there. Dayton Air Show also was well worth the $15 price of admission, if you didn't mind 100,000 people at Wright-Pat.

It's my understanding that LBJ in the mid '60s had the final say on where the new airport would be located: Kentucky or Ohio. His pal in Congress for 30 years was Brent Spence, D-Northern Kentucky. On the other side of the river, you had the Taft family still calling the shots. That's why the airport was built in Kentucky, and not Ohio. (By the way, I live in Kentucky but work in Ohio.)
