It is a very brilliant book, though flawed. The author submitted it to one editor, and killed himself after it was rejected; the book was "discovered" much later, when his mother harrassed a noted author/critic until he was forced to read the manuscript. My feeling is that if the author had lived to work with a good editor on cleaning it up it would have been a much better book, and one can only guess at what sort of work might have followed it. Very much worth reading.
