An analog picture on HDTV has better clarity, but my eye did not find it that much better. HDTV uses a digital processor to apply corrections and has a higher definition screen. HDTV really shines when you use the satellite or DVD material available. Over the air broadcasts and cable are yet to come. Re: "In addition weren't there two types of HDTV being proposed...American vs Japanese...has that been resolved?" My understanding is that the standard has been resolved.
