Regarding strikes, the Venezuelan oil workers threatened to strike several times in 1999 & 2000. There was always a blip in crude prices, but nothing more. I can't imagine that a SA gold miners strike would cause any sort of long term change.

depends on price, if price went up enough some mines could reopen.
