I didn't say anything about finding dates for kids. I support the idea of relatives taking on some sort of functions as matchmaker.

Abstinence is great. But for the 60 or more % of kids who aren't going to buy that (and even when I was in school the % of virgins graduating from highschool was on smaller than The Other) we've got to offer something. Education, which could include a message about the pitfalls of teen sex (including some really good info on pregnancy, and std's).

I wish all kids came from families where parents had the inclination AND the time to teach their children responsible sexual behavior. But many parents are allowing the media to educate their kids about sex. Which is (imo) like giving Larry Flint a crack at teaching your kids sex ed. The sexual information in the movies is primarily male information- since males are visually stimulated so easily, most of this stuff is thrown in to "sell" them. We don't see realistic sexual scenes in movies. How long, for example, in movie minutes, is your average sex scene? Foreplay? HA. So the movies are selling out children the idea that sex can be initiated quickly, without consequences, and that it will be "rewarding" for both parties after 3 minutes of rutting. Uh huh.

Education doesn't have the glamour or the bucks to combat entertainment. We can't hold back the tide. For what the tide is go to see just about any R rated teen movie. It's a tide of T&A and it is washing over our kids.
