You can feel the same way about your parents and their disapproval and get to a completely different place.

Liberal and decent are no necessarily exclusive terms. They used to be quite commonly paired.

My parents would have been horrified if I had turned out conservative. My mother still thinks I am far too conservative, I can tell.

Have you talked to your mother lately??

Not wanting to disappoint one's parents does not get you to an even standard of decency. I think this might have been over looked. But my apologies if it was already mentioned.

Sure it does, XXX....... if your parents are decent people and if they instill those values consistently.

I'm going to have to start charging you for reading services.

The point of the referenced post was that good parents guide kids to decency, which keeps them from getting pregnant, landing in jail, etc.
