AUCTIONS GETTING LOST IN AMAZON'S JUNGLE
With little fanfare, Amazon.com has cut back on its online auction business. The company had put forward the high-profile site as a challenge to eBay, the granddaddy of online auctions. Now that plan has been mothballed as the company tightens its belt. (From CNet News)

I suppose I do not understand why most firms do not have a decent connection to the net, security and of course adequate air conditioning. This seems like a small expense.

It's more complicated than that. An Internet connection is a fragile thing that needs a lot of pampering. This is the kind of thing that should ideally be outsourced.

I hope you don't mind my asking. Do you host your own web site at your own location ? And if your on-line operation was much larger, would you pay to have it located in a place that provided strong physical security, as well as backup power and redundant internet connection ?
