RESEARCH ALERT-Lehman ups KLA-Tencor '02 EPS view
NEW YORK, Aug 1 (Reuters) - Lehman Brothers on Wednesday said it raised its fiscal-year 2002 earnings outlook for KLA-Tencor Corp. (NasdaqNM:KLAC - news), a maker of equipment used to inspect semiconductors.

Analyst Edward White increased his estimate to $1.85 from $1.25 a share.

The company on Tuesday reported that fourth-quarter profits declined but were above analysts' consensus estimates and said that despite the chip downturn, it kept backlog on its books.

``KLA is cautious on its outlook, but is well positioned to outperform most chip equipment companies in this downcycle,'' White said in a research note.

Shares of the San Jose, California-based company rose $2.23, or 4 percent, to $56.62 in Wednesday morning trade on Nasdaq.
