Dan, >Notebooks using AMD's .18 chips have the same performance and same battery life as notebooks using Intel's .13 process.

According to the PC mag benchmarks, Tualatin 1.13 GHz thumps the A4 1 GHz soundly. Read it and weep. Third page, click on "Click here to view the results of our benchmark tests."

You're losing it man.

Dan3,

Re: "What will Intel do when AMD releases its SOI .13 chips 6 months from now?"

You might want to extend that to 9 months -> 1 year, Dan3. AMD's
.13um SOI process looks to be "MIA". <ggg>

>Notebooks using AMD's .18 chips have the same performance and same battery life as notebooks using Intel's .13 process. What will Intel do when AMD releases its SOI .13 chips 6 months from now?<

If one adjusts for the more robust configurations, including higher end graphics, of the Tualatin notebooks, it does indeed become obvious that the performance of the Athlon 4 is competitive. But, it is only because of these more robust configurations that the Tualatin notebooks consume as much power (actually more) than the Athlon 4 notebooks.

This could however, be good new for AMD, since it indicates that performance is a more important consideration than battery life at the high end. With this in mind, although mobile Thoroughbred is likely to still be a little above mobile Tualatin with regards to power consumption, when teamed with the mobile nForce it should be very competitive.
