This was the competitive field when the grocery chain stores emerged, A&P was among the first, and took on the Mom and Pop grocery stores. The fair trade regulations were a result of this competition. The grocery chains won. Later, the convenience stores appeared to fill a consumer demand for quick and easy shopping.
