My comment was that I thought it inappropriate to invoke chivalry as a cause for your riding to Karen's defense. I don't think E would do that. Invoking chivalry suggests that you thought that Karen needed help. A very different thing from a friendly gesture.

My point is that the only people qualified to decide whether it's right or wrong are the participants themselves, assuming consenting adulthoods. Accepting this means that we have to accept some behaviour that some of us might think is wrong, but if we accept the principle that personal liberties should be restrained only if their exercise compromises the rights of others, that doesn't matter much.
