There's a lot on the net about Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. I remember reading some impressive anecdotes about patients whose CTS ws treated with low level laser therapy; and i see that if you put CTS and LLLT into google there is some interesting material.

google.com

The idea is that there are real problems with both steroid injections and surgery, and LLLT is non-invasive and more effective.

You'll see quite a few 'alternative' sites there. Here's a non-alternative reference. There are a lot of those, too, if you look for them.

ncbi.nlm.nih.gov

Noninvasive laser neurolysis in carpal tunnel syndrome.

Weintraub MI.

Department of Neurology, Phelps Memorial Hospital, Briarcliff Manor, New York 10510, USA.

The peripheral nervous system is photosensitive providing the scientific rationale for this study, which determines the efficacy and safety of laser light exposure in 30 cases with CTS. Nine joules of energy over five points (7-15 treatments) reversed CTS in 77% of cases with three-fold normalization of CMAP. A photobiologic response was seen in 80% of nerves. This unique and novel approach is cost-effective and will play a role in future management of CTS.

A couple of other interesting ones:

cnn.com

Below is the plastic surgeon's view, which, untruthfully but unsurprisingly, claims that there have been no published reports showing improvement from laser therapy.

plasticsurgery.org

Below is the best summary page, I think. All articles reviewed by Harvard Medical School physicians.

The following report is part of the Well-Connected library, which consists of over 90 in-depth reports on common psychological and medical problems and wellness topics. Reports are reviewed by physicians at Harvard Medical School and are updated quarterly.

tifaq.org

Do a search there for laser (Ctrl F). Directly under the para on laser is a mention of ultrasound. They talk about physiotherapy, too.

There's also a mention, on that page, of a new and still-experimental surgical treatment that doesn't cut the carpal ligament and looks very promising, the Percutaneous Balloon Carpal Tunnel-Plasty.

Good luck with this.
