One clue is that so far Fugitsu has not announced a 40 GB platter. Unless I've missed it.

One factoid that gives credence to the Fujitsu rumor is that CRUS announced a couple of weeks ago that they are getting out of the hard drive chip business. This accounted for a large portion of their revenues, although not much of their profits and none of their growth. Fujitsu was their major and perhaps even their only customer.

If Fujitsu does actually exit the business, it would obviously be positive for WDC and Maxtor. But if Samsung also exits the drive business, then it would be an enormous positive. Then I think people could start making some good money again in the desktop arena, even with the PC slowdown, barring any new major entrants.

FWIW.
