Windsock, Re: But the Tulatin only thumps the A4 by 30% plus on performance.

Oh, come on. You are resorting to the same distorted arguments here.

Yes, the Tualatin is a very good mobile processor. And yes, it has better power consumption than the A4 (up to 50%). However, it's not considerably faster when operating in an equal environment. Coppermine is a little bit faster than Thunderbird (FSB100) clock-for-clock. Thunderbird (FSB133, DDR) is moderately faster than Thunderbird (FSB100, SDR) clock-for-clock. Athlon 4 is slightly faster than Thunderbird clock-for-clock. So how does Tualatin manage to be 20-30% faster than Athlon 4? The answer: It isn't. It just depends on the notebook configuration. The only conclusion you can draw is that the reviewed Tualatin notebooks are faster than the reviewed Athlon 4 notebooks. If you want real performance comparisons between processors go to Anandtech, Tom's Hardware, Ace's Hardware etc. I remember even a Japanese(?) site which tested the 512kb Tualatin version (read: mobile one) recently in a desktop environment. I think you'll find a link at JC's to the story.

But if you still believe this PC magazine test is valid for comparing processors, then you should come to the conclusion that Tualatin has a higher power consumption than Athlon 4. (all A4 notebooks have a longer battery life in the test). And we both not that this is absolutely not true. So please stop this pissing contest. You can make better arguments here.
