On this we can absolutely agree. However, it does not follow for me that the paper does not count. The principles underly what the paper represents. As our flag represents a nation of liberty and a constitutional rule of law. The flag itself is just cloth; but your drapes which are also cloth would not be an equivalent substitute. Show me an equivalent substitute for the Marriage Declaration and I will probably call it a marriage. It is not the paper but what it represents in principle.
