DCH Delivers 5kW Fuel Cell To UOP For System Development For French Utility
VALENCIA, CA, Aug 23, 2001 (INTERNET WIRE via COMTEX) -- DCH Technology, Inc. (AMEX: DCH chart, msgs), a manufacturer of hydrogen fuel cells and hydrogen-specific sensors, announced it's plan to integrate a 5 kW PEM DCH Enable(TM) fuel cell with a natural gas reformer supplied by UOP LLC to provide a stand-alone power quality system for an electric utility in France by year-end.

UOP LLC is a global leader in developing and commercializing process technology and a leading supplier of natural gas reformer technology to the fuel cell industry. The fuel cell was delivered by DHC to UOP's Des Plaines, Illinois, facility last week. UOP's fuel processor will be supplied under a purchase agreement.

The utility is a client of the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI), the premier science and technology development program for the energy industry. EPRI is world renown for its research, technology development, and product implementation of power generation and transmission products and processes. EPRI's power quality program has been sponsoring R&D with the DCH fuel cell to better access it's exceptional response to load - on the order of 70 microseconds from standby - critical to providing seamless quality power solutions.

"This is another strong step in fulfilling our strategic plan to partner with major players in the traditional and alternative energy industries that can help us both further develop our technologies as well as provide near-term channels to market for their commercialization," said DCH President and CEO John Donohue.

"This sale is also another indication that DCH technology offers users specific added value that will continue to differentiate our products and grow our company. We now enjoy record backlog for fuel cell orders - more than $450,000 in signed contracts for our Enable(TM) brand fuel cells with manufacturing and research and development customers, which is in keeping with the increase we projected at this time last year. We also a enjoy a growing backlog of signed orders for our hydrogen-specific sensors as we continue to penetrate deeper into the semiconductor industry."

UOP LLC, headquartered in Des Plaines, is a leading international supplier and licensor of process technology, catalysts, adsorbents, process plants, and technical services to the petroleum refining, petrochemical, and gas processing industries.

EPRI's power quality program was the first customer to order a DCH/Enable power quality system - a 3kW hydrogen-based PEM fuel cell that has been operating at the EPRI PEAC laboratory facilities in Knoxville, Tennessee for the past year where it has been showcased to dozens of utilities worldwide. .
