I don't know the answer to that. Intel may be right on this one based on 1.8, soon to be 2.0 GHz P4s.

In case of SOI the claimed gain seems to be very impressive yet Intel thinks it is not sufficient. More than that Intel went through a lot of trouble trying to convince everyone that is not sufficient. It is almost like intel is trying to save money for amd, sounds strange.

On this one, there is debate still going on. IBM/Motorola, who have done the development work on SOI, believe it's wonderful. Intel, now TI, disagree. Guess we'll just have to wait and see.
