incomep: I set all my stops per software alert and then place the orders. I don't like having my stops on the books so they can be run.

I only set stops with the broker when I can't be there to watch. One of my accounts is at ETrade. ETrade's stop loss policy is a minimum of 25 cents below the bid or above the ask depending on whether your placing a stop for a long or a short position.

ip,
I use DATEK and they allow you to set all type of Stop orders(Stop Sell, Stop Buy, Stop Limit Sell and Stop Limit Buy) where ever it makes sense to you.
