don, i'm cynical. i think there was one part let's not let computers fade into oblivion and 50 parts let's goose gdp and claim a miracle from god, errrrr, the people in power! ;-)

standard of living is nebulous, dynamic and depends on individual value systems, just as you alluded to. if abc comes out with an ice cream that increases my ice cream standard of living by 100% but doesn't cost more than my old brand... how do we account for that? especially when joe could care less about brands and amy feels she has received a 50% increase in ice cream standard of living. well, before she suffered that stomach ache and so she values her original brand 40% more now.
