WLD, the pricing for existing Palm models is...

...almost unbelievable. I think the VIIx sells for under $200 now and the IIIc's are selling
for about $250.00 a piece. Palm took a big inventory write off for components, work in progress
and finished goods which they consider unsellable. Perhaps with the incredible fall in pricing
more people will be willing to purchase a "training model" and then eventually upgrade to deluxe
model at a later date. In any case, Sony and Handspring will continue to put pricing pressure
on Palm and vice versa. Kind of nice for consumers.

Palm may not be sitting still. The easy thing would be increasing the resolution on the m50x. It can also do the virtual handwriting display thing HandEra is doing. That's only a display change and software upgrade. Palm has the changes that HandEra has done anyway. With these updates, the m50x can go for $299 and $350 respectively. Actually, the HandEra display is only 320x240, which should be cheaper than a 320x320 display.

A bigger and harder change would be putting the ARM chip in, but that requires the addition of multimedia parts such as the speaker, mike, and headset. Preferrably, the CF slot would be better than SD, but we know Palm. It was a bad decision that's too late to be reversed.
