Obviously you flunked English. And history. And economics. Must have gotten a social promotion degree.
(That's assuming you have a degree- -any degree- -of course.)

The extreme left is characterized by total government of the economy- -communisn. Next to the right of the communists are socialists, characterized by partial government ownership of the means of production and strong social welfare benefits. Then is the political center, then rightists. The further right someone is, the less role they see for the government in the economy and the more strongly they believe that the market is the only acceptable economic control. The further right, the fewer social welfare benefits. Those social welfare benefits are the primary battleground in this country.

In theory any of these economic systems can be democratic or dictatorships. In fact the extremes are the home of the autocrats and the democrats live in the vicinity of the center.
