I shouldn't have used the term RAS in my last question. The 12000 had better be reliable out to three nines if it hopes to compete at all. What I was getting at was that since it is a first generation switch and possibly incompatible with Mcdata's installed base, then perhaps it would be more appropriate for new deployments.
If I'm reading your responses correctly, Brocade may not have an interoperability problem with Mcdata's directors, but rather with their own installed base of fabric switches. If you're right about customers having to manually upgrade their fabric switches offline, then this presents an enormous problem in Brocade's efforts to successfully market the switch to large enterprise SAN customers-like the German bank that you mentioned.
I'm wondering if that German bank will be the exception or the rule.
