With the word "projections" and the subject "earnings growth" in the quote which you provided...how could you have possibly infer anything similar to what you suggest in "interpretations" 1, 3, and 4?

LP.

Great thread, Tom! It's long overdue, but quite appropriate for both good AND bad investing times alike.

Here's some input:

CNBS [sic] announced a novel approach to the ongoing negative market environment (which undoubtedly has harmed their ratings). Beginning Monday, the first hour of their "Street Signs" segment will be called "What's Up?" According to Maria, it is intended to focus exclusively on the positive aspects of the market, including only stocks that are up. I kid you not.

So, if the news is bad, if stocks are going down, and if the market is in dire straits, let's just ignore all of that, and focus on feeling good. Let's all be happy and watch CNBS [sic].

Best Regards,
John
