We ain't nearly at any kind of bottom until the "Help Wanted" signs go away from Targets, Burger Kings, etc. The low-wage places are still taking all comers, but the low-wage workers can still be picky. Then you start watching the people that still work there to see if they're getting any friendlier or any more competent. That's the level where the store has so many people to pick from that they can start picking and choosing to get people who are actually qualified for the job. (Haven't seen it myself since '90-'91.) A couple of months after that, that's the bottom. ----- (FWIW, Albertson's, one of the big supermarket chains here in northern California, is cutting its hours from round-the-clock to 6 am - Midnight.)
