Alomex: If there is anything empirical -- any actual evidence and analysis -- I would love to see it. That is all. In the mean time, it seems safe to say that there is no credible empirical research to indicate any productivity gains as a result of computers. The shoe is really on the other foot -- if you assert there are gains you should offer something credible and systematic. I don't know which side of the issue has any facts -- perhaps neither. But given the supposed role of computers in our economy, and centrality of computers, I remain in awe of the complete absence of any studies to support the claims of the "new economy".
