I suspect that for women, if one controlled for all the factors, the important thing would be to have a support system, not necessarily in the form of a husband.

I thought nuns lived a long time.
Of course they are sort of married. But I don't think they have licit or illicit sex with their spouse.
But then I can't be sure. I'm not a Catholic and I don't understand the religion. That marriage thing always seemed odd to me. If you are only supposed to marry to procreate....
