Are you kidding? Where do you think STDs come from if not from relationships that involve more than one partner.

Brees, I'm running out of ways to explain this. The whole concept of "going steady" is that there are no other partners. Just two people. Having sex with just each other. It's called monogamy. (I know you don't have to look that one up.) Under those conditions, STDs really aren't a risk factor whether Dick and Jane are married or not.

Now, if you're taking about serial monogamous relationships, the probability that one or both partners are infected needs to be dealt with. With some STDs, you don't necessarily have symptoms so a trip to the doctor is in order. People in caring, respectful relationships protect their partners by tending to such things as doctor's visits and blood tests, just like they do before they get married. If Dick and Jane had each been married before and then married each other, they'd be at no less risk that if each of them had had the same number of non-married relationships. A marriage ceremony doesn't cure any diseases.
