Do they have to?

I would think that IA-64 is for multi-tasking and multi-processing type applications.

Would the desk top type applications be better served by a different architecture?

Perhaps one of our MP designers can help us to understand this stuff a little better.

I've read these rumors too. But you tell me. If Prescott emerges before P4 even reaches 4.0 GHz, what are the chances that P4 will even hit 6.0 GHz? Keep historical precedence in mind.
