Talisman storming in Sudan
Upstream, August 3
Iain Esau

Talisman Energy expects to boost production from its Sudanese fields to more than 230,000 barrels per day by the end of the year as it brings recent discoveries onstream and completes infrastructure enhancement work.

The Canadian company said that easing the bottlenecks at the Heglig and Unity fields' central processing facilities -- in blocks 1b and 2b respectively -- has been completed and additional pumps will be installed on the export pipeline to help achieve this year's output target. The Bamboo field in block 2 started production last month with output forecast to increase from 15,000 to 30,000 bpd by the end of this year.
Talisman had earlier put the field's proven and probable reserves at some 84 million barrels.

Start up of the nearby Khairat North East discovery is imminent while Talisman chief executive Jim Buckee said that the recent Munga discovery is due to come on stream in mid-2002. The pre-drill reserve estimate for this prospect stood 52 million barrels.

Another Heglig/Unity satellite is the recent Kaikang discovery in block 4, which flowed at 2200 bpd during testing.
Meanwhile, another rig is being mobilised to drill the Shelongo appraisal in the northern sector of block 4.
