he failure of WEVD to attract better ratings despite its
stellar line-up has left-wing talk radio junkies
scratching their heads.

The ABC Radio network has purchased WEVD, whose call
letters derive from Socialist Party founder Eugene V.
Debs. Starting Sept. 1, ESPN Sports Radio will take over
the slot.

Meanwhile down the dial, right-leaning firebreathers like
WOR's Bob Grant and WABC's Sean Hannity are thriving.

Conservative radio icon Rush Limbaugh, who made WABC his
flagship station when he came to New York in 1988, just
signed a ten-year $350 million contract.
