Well, in reality, the left is more defined by liberalism and tolerance and the right is more defined by conservatism and intolerance. You geniuses can distort all the names of all the types of Government you want to justify who was left and who was right but the cold hard facts are that any form of government can become extreme right or extreme left, ie ultra conservative or ultra liberal or somewhere in between. What stops governments from becoming what those in power want it to be is powerful check and balance system that tends to thwart absolute usurping of power. So far this has worked in the US because of the nincompoops you folks on this line call democraps. Along with those views go the right wing "survival of the fittest, let the weak die off" philosophy to the left wing "it is the people and the governments responsiblity to care for it's citizens" So if you guys think Hitler and Stalin were "tree hugging caring looking our for the weak characters" then indeed they were left and liberal. I tend to think that they both had only one goal and that was to rule absolutely and ruthlessly with and iron fist, like Hoover ruled the FBI for 40 years as a republican.
