M A R K E T .. S N A P S H O T -- Caution emerging in U.S. markets

NEW YORK (CBS.MW) - Investors are displaying some caution Friday after taking the Nasdaq higher for three consecutive sessions.

The July employment report highlights the day's events. A survey of economists projects non-farm payrolls to have fallen 36,000 last month while the unemployment rate is seen edging up to 4.6 percent. And average hourly earnings are seen rising 0.3 percent.

Checking the futures markets, September S&P 500 futures slipped 2.80 points, or 0.2 percent, and were trading about 1.50 points below fair value, according to HL Camp & Co.

In shares trading before the opening bell, Sun Micro added 23 cents to $18.40.

Meanwhile, Dow company Walt Disney (DIS) reported after the close a fiscal third-quarter profit from operations of 23 cents vs. the 21 cents a share that had been expected by Thomson Financial/First Call.

Over in the government bond arena, prices rose modestly, with traders displaying unwillingness to take on any big bets.

The 10-year Treasury note was up 3/32 to yield ($TNX) 5.135 percent while the 30-year government bond added 2/32 to yield ($TYX) 5.575 percent.

Another economic report due out Friday is the NAPM non-manufacturing index for July. and economic calendar and forecasts.

In the currency sector, dollar/yen edged up 0.1 percent to 123.80 while euro/dollar shaved 0.3 percent to 0.8808.

OK Tim..... print these rules out and put them on the wall....

1.) "Don't ride a position into the dirt!"

2.) "When a position turns against you, get out, and get out now!"

Now say them over and over and over and, well, you know the rest.... have the discipline to execute the rules.

Granted, yours didn't exactly go into the dirt I gather, but still yet, when it turns against you, get out.

OK, per your request, there's your head slap!

Chalk that week you mentioned off to experience. Learn from it, and move forward, getting better and better...
