way back in the woods one meets no one.

Substantially true here, as well. Where one is likely to meet creeps is where there is easy road access, ie entrance and egress to wilderness areas, or "remote" areas which are within easy reach of larger urban centers. They like these places because they feel they can do their dirty work unseen, with minimal chance of immediate discovery and pursuit, and little hope of the victim summoning help.

There have been a substantial number of instances of innocent people brutally murdered by creeps up in the nearby sticks in recent years. Not to mention the usual lightening strikes, mountain lion attacks, out-of-staters skiing off on cloudless blue mornings with a light sweater on and becoming lost during a whiteout, and found in the springtime, etc.
