It was a little startling at first. They thanked me for my letter supporting Uncle Ted's position vis a vis the Contras. It was not the typical kiss off letter. They went above and beyond the normal cursory stuff. It was two pages and included many details. It was also a rather strident rah-rah kind of pep talk.

What I think happened was I had signed a petition to impeach Reagan a couple of months earlier. Not that I wanted him impeached, but the girl collecting signatures on the sidewalk in Amherst was pretty, plus if you signed they gave an Impeach Reagan bumper sticker. I thought it would be a neat collector's item. They must have attached those signatures to letters and sent them in.
