The people who immigrate here may not be as well off as the people who are already here, but they work hard and accumulate wealth, buy houses, pay taxes. They like really big houses with tiny yards, so lots of taxes per acre

They more often aren't.. that' why they come :o). Between the Chinese and Italians in Toronto we have 1.2 million folks. You'd be hard pressed to find a more diverse city than Toronto and many people with money to burn, no outward sign of implosion here I'm afraid.

That part I hate, Monster Homes we call them, but of course the government likes them as higher density infill housing increases the tax base as you cite. I like my 'decently sized' city yard (166 x 50 ft.) and would have bigger if I could swing it. Next house will definitely have land (no Maurice I'm not an Astec for I'll want my own self sufficient energy system and high speed net hookup :o)
