KC, <Note also that the likes of Shell and Texaco are changing their posture and transforming into 'energy' companies. Imagine an integrated oil company seriously backing research into safe hydrogen storage for fuel cells !
>

In the early 1980s the oil companies were calling themselves energy companies and doing research and producing in all sorts of non-oil energy, from sugar beet to fusion research.

My ex-boss worked for Shell in the very early 1970s on hydrogen as a fuel. It's a false idea that many people have that they just want to sell oil. They have tried all sorts of silly ideas outside their field of expertise, from chemicals, to mining, to embryo transfer, fish farming and forestry.
