If it doesn't make economic sense without tax subsidies, I see little advantage in my helping you pay for it.

In fact, my suggestion would be a Federal registration requirement for an unobstructed south facing roof. In order to fight global warming, nothing can be allowed to obstruct the reflection of the Sun's energy back into space where it belongs to keep it from heating up the planet. When the majority of such homes have been registered with the help of reporting bounties, we can proceed with the regulations to require that a minimum of 95% of incident solar energy is reflected. This can then be generalized to all homes, with a tax to be paid on all solar energy absorbed and not reflected. This will be called the Dark Surface Tax. -g-
