Slacker,

<< My personal opinion is that the CDG makes the numbers up each quarter and then attempts to correct them later. They are occasionally in alignment with reality....but it is only on accident <g>. >>

ROFLMAO!

Then why the heck does it take them so long to publish these WAGs? <g>

I have no idea how CDG compiles their statistics. Possibly they compile them themselves, or maybe they use a research firm.

In general, I'll take EMC's numbers over CDG's, but I don't trust EMC's monthly numbers. I know they scrub up after the fact, with all sorts of double and triple checking.

I'm pretty familiar with EMC's methodology because I've discussed it with them after presentations I've attended over the years.

This year EMC wound up with something like 708 million worldwide subs initially (excluding ESMR). After final scrubbing the number became 728 million.

In the case of the recent drill down on Asia-Pacific, I would kind of bet on EMC's numbers because they are published so long after Q1 concluded, giving them ample time to reverify.

re: July Sub Growth Good for CDMA

EMC numbers are up:

gsmworld.com

Current ratio of GSM subs to CDMA subs is 5.6:1 (564.6 million to 99.8 million).

GSM numbers increased only 10.7 from 553.9 million to 564.6 million.

CDMA is shown unofficially as increasing 3.3 million from 96.5 million to 99.8 million.

Exceptional month for CDMA relative to GSM with 1 net sub add for every 3.3 CDMA subs.

Market share:

% of all % of digital

GSM 65.7% 70.5%
CDMA 11.6% 12.5%

Based on 859.8 subs worldwide (800.4 digital).
