Are you back from vacation now? This time next week, I'll be heading out!! For STEM's retracement calculation, I'm using the same dates as you. The figures I first posted were based on a quick use of the fib tool in BITM on a chart - with my jittery old hands and bad eyesight there is definitely room for error. And indeed there was; using my fib spreadsheet, I just in cranked the precise data (verified from eSig, QP and TC2K, rounded to 2 decimals) for low of 5-1 (1.88) and high of 7-23 (7.25). On the .618 retracement, I get 3.93 from both my spreadsheet and the fib tool posted by Collin. As this differs from your result, we must not be using the same data. For the April low on 4-4 (1.47) I get 3.68. What data did you use (I'm curious why we get different results). My error using the BITM tool occurred because I couldn't readily distinguish where I was putting the cursor on the 5-1 bar; it was a narrow range day and both a 5 dSMA and 13 dEMA were crossing it. I must have hit on the open price of 1.98, as that would give 3.99+, and on the BITM chart looked close enough to 4 for a fast read. In constructing a fib retracement, I first look for significant low and hi dates, or dates when a trendline starts/ends. For studies, I also prefer using a chart tool as I can quickly see if the fib lines it draws coincide with other price patterns of support/resistance and volume. AmiBroker has a good fib tool as well (and is very reasonablly priced as shareware), but I'm still working on getting familiar with that program and don't rely on it yet for analysis. Hope this helps. As always, ask if I can answer any other questions. Peace and Justice --- Patrick Afterthought edit - went home flat for once (except for intermediate and long term trades). Sold AKLM on apparent weakness, didn't like the dips under 5.1. May rebuy next week. This was a good week. Have a great w/e all.
