The study really does not mean very much without a breakdown. I have been on Niaspan for over 4 years. Total cholesterol has only decreased by about 25%. But, My last few reports show HDL and LDL approximately equal anound the 60-70 area. Some of the reports show HDL greater than LDL.

Peter: I imagine you've already seen the Gary Taubes piece on cholesterol, dietary fat and health in the March 30 issue of Science. But, in case you haven't, the link below will take you to this gem of science reporting (unfortunately, the link doesn't include the sidebars to the article).
