If the prisoner gets a pitance, then its a pitance too much. I absolutely agree. It costs more to keep a criminal behind bars in this state than most of us make in a year. And out of that we have to pay housing, transportation, insurance, food, clothing, health care, etc. Put 'em to work, and make them pay their upkeep, same as everyone else. We can start by reducing their living expenses. Conditions should be no better than those of the thousands of (law-abiding) persons in our armed services who are currently deployed in the field.
