9:55AM Nasdaq Composite : -- Technical -- Once again flirts with the important 2010/2000 area and bounces. Intraday indicators are in favor of at least a short term bounce with the semiconductor sector again the key (SOX held thus far near support at 609/605). Initial resistance is at 2026 followed by 2032/36. Failure to take out these ceilings during the recovery attempt leaves the door open to another round of downticks and a test of the bottom of the support range at 2000.

9:42AM KLA-Tencor (KLAC) 54.79 -3.16 (-5.4%): -- Update -- Technical -- On the defensive after CSFB downgrade and now eyeing a solid support barrier in the 54.40/54 area (38% of July rally/chart barrier/50 day simple ma). Needs to recover back through the 57.05 area to neutralize the short term negative tone. Failure exposes support in the 52.6/52.3 area.

9:22AM Applied Materials (AMAT) 48.73: -- Update -- DB Alex. Brown says fundamentals weakened more than expected, and aggressive pull-in at end of quarter makes low end guidance likely; sees significant uncertainty in Q4 and beyond, and says recovery not within limits of visibility; advocates caution.

8:58AM Zygo Corp (ZIGO) 19.00: ABN AMRO downgrades to HOLD from Add... recent news of order push-outs related to ASML and other suppliers suggest that the outlook for stepper lithography demand is likely to get worse before itgets better... lowering FY02 est. to $0.40 from $0.60 and CY02 to $0.60 from $1.00.
