I was once responsible for the census reports for an electronics company. We did our best to provide good data. But there are several problems with the system. Categories of product were always lagging reality and definitions were sometimes obscure. We fit our product lines into their format as best we could. Others in our business probably made different category choices. The reports were never audited. Our choice was to spend a lot of time on these reports or spend it on something productive. What would most people do?
